New Year New Start...

ree

Well what an odd year 2020 was! and with 2021 shaping up to be just as strange it is as important as ever to keep ourselves motivated not only for our physical health but also for our mental health.

Easy for me to say I hear you cry!

Let me tell you it's not anything but in fact, I would like nothing more than to stay tucked up in bed and to just dream about going out on adventures! and some days I do just that!!

But instead of just dreaming about them I actually start making plans one thing I have found through the whole of my fitness journey is that staying motivated in a MUST! and setting a goal is such an important part of that :-)

I find setting mini goals a good place to start, so I may just plan a mini adventure starting from my front door, I know that sounds dull! but do you know what wonders lay just beyond your doorstep?

I sure didn't and when I realised there was more to my area than just a main road leading to the local town a whole new world of possibilities opened up to me :-)

I also have major goals to one being getting up Ben Nevis later this year and my end goal will be to go to Nepal in 2022 to hiking the Mera Peak!

Does it sound unreachable? I don't think so especially if you set smaller goals first and work your way up.

Excuses are so easy my favourite is I’m too tired or my knee hurts but these are only obstacles that I have put in my own way.

What are your excuses? what do you say to yourself that stops you from taking that adventure?

It is so easy to just give in to the negative and give up on our goals laugh it off even, but you will always be left with a sense of what if.

So now is your time today is your day but them boots/shoes on pull on your big boy/girl pants and get out there!

But how do I find places to go or I don't have the right equipment!

All you need to start is a good pair of shoes - boots or trainers, comfy trousers a warm jacket if you live in a colder climate and the will to get started.

But to help you on your way I’ve listed a few ways for you to get going: -

  1. To find those hidden gems and you have a smart phone download OS Maps and have a look at routes others have plotted out. The maps are particularly good and a great starting point plus you can GPS your way round so you shouldn't get lost.

  2. Good piece of footwear being comfy is vital and you don't want to get put off from your first adventure due to blisters!

  3. Water bottle, this is a must! staying hydrated is so important.

  4. A snack it can be a chocolate bar or a piece of fruit my favourite is a dried date! as it's full of natural sugar and fast acting when I'm feeling a little tired.

  5. If its a cold day a waterproof jacket is a must and don't let yourself get put off by a little wet weather!

This list is for you to get started for walks up to 12km anything over that I will talk about in another blog but for now you have a little something to get y ou started :-)

Don't put it off another day start today even if it'd a walk round the block! as a wise person once said out of little acorns grow big trees :-)

And when you do get out there don't forget to take pictures and tag me in!

That's it for now Happy Adventures!

See you all soon!
