Adventure Kinder Scout

Updated: Jul 23

People are always asking me where my adventures will take me next and what the places I visit where like so I have decided to do a series on the places I have visited and how I found them!

So this week we will be visiting Kinder Scout the highest point in the Peak District! (yes I have a small obsession with regards find the highest point everywhere i go!!) Kinder Scout is described as a moorland plateau in the Dard Peak. Most famous for the famous mass trespass by ramblers who had previously been denied access to to open country this highest point in the Peak District is still a major draw to walkers. The most popular way to Kinder Scout is from Edale. When on top and in clear weather conditions Manchester can be seen as well as the highest mountains of Snowdonia

So whats it like?

Kinder Scout is a lovely place to visit even on a rainy day! Which it was the day I decided to take a trip out there!!!

There is a nice car park in Hayfield which has a pay and display, make sure you have change as when I went it was still a change machine!

The route from there wasn't that well sign posted so had to go off my OS map to head out in the right direction.

I loved the fact that even before you start your accent the scenery is breath-taking with lovely running streams and greenery.

As you start going up it starts as a manageable incline getting a little harder the higher you go up! Now on a normal dry day this route would be great but on the day, I went it was a wee bit slippy! going up wasn't too bad but coming sown was like skying!!! I watched a few runners take a muddy tumble on the way down.

As you get closer to the top it gets cold especially on rainy days so make sure you take something to wrap up in and a waterproof.

Getting to the top was a little tricky as again there is no clear markings, and the route isn't obvious but once you get to the start of it it’s pretty easy to find after that it's just finding it! :-)

I found asking the locals in the area was the best course of action.

I had to take a makeshift stairway to the top which was a little gnarly in the rain but on a scale of easy to hard wasn't that hard but if you are not in a decent fitness you may want to take your time going up.

When I reached the trig point, I was surprised to see it was on top of a boulder!!! a little different :-)

I was amazed to see a lot of nesting grouse up there in the heather so make sure you stick to the paths as not to disturb them

Even though visibility the day I went was a little restricted it was breath-taking up there I just wish I had known I needed change for the car park as I could only pay for 4 hrs!! (I was 50p of the gull day price!!!) as I would of loved to have explored a lot more and will definitely go back but may be in a warmer climate!!

The Height: 636m

2,087 feet

Difficulty: Moderate - but goes up to hard on a wet day and not advisable for anyone with knee or ankle issues.

Would I go again definitely as there is do much more to discover!

Out of 10 I’d give it a firm 8/10
